From Frustration to Celebration
Are you planning a special event such as a wedding, anniversary, special birthday or engagement party? Perhaps you are just thinking about getting started and you have yet to make a list of all the things you need to do to ensure it all goes smoothly.
You could decide to tackle the bull by the horns yourself (warning - this could seriously mess up your hair!), or relax and get on with all the other things you have to do, while someone else takes care all the planning and arranging for you.
A typical celebration to do list will probably include most of the following tasks:
1. Choose a venue and select a few available dates
2. Compile a guest list
3. Choose a date that will suit all the most important people on the guest list
4. Confirm the venue booking and pay a deposit
5. Send out invitations
6. Arrange accommodation for out-of-town guests
7. Choose a caterer
8. Choose décor – arrange for venue to be decorated
9. Choose a photographer, if required
10. Choose entertainment, such as a DJ, if required
11. Choose playlist for the event
12. Shop for outfits and accessories
13. Make an appointment with hairdresser and manicurist if needed
14. Follow up invitations that have not had an RSPV
15. Confirm number of guests attending with caterers
16. Arrange transport to and from the venue, if needed
17. Purchasing gifts, if appropriate
18. Prepare speech, if appropriate
19. Send thank you notes after the event
20. Arrange a diversion if it’s a surprise!
For planning a wedding, this list would probably be about three times as long!
You might just want help with getting a few of these tasks sorted out, for example getting quotes from caterers and putting together a selection of quotes and brochures for the venue. What you do need to do is ask yourself how much time all these tasks would add up to and whether you can fit it all into your daily routine without getting too stressed out.
